چکیده

It is shown that sp phase organization plays an important role in the field emission from nanostructured carbons. Emission is found to depend on the cluster size, anisotropy, and mesoscale bonding of the sp phase, and the electronic disorder. It is found by Raman spectroscopy that increasing the size of sp clusters in the 1–10 nm range improves emission. Anisotropy in the sp phase orientation can help or inhibit the emission. sp clusters embedded in the sp matrix or electronic disorder induced by localized defects oriented in the field direction can provide a local field enhancement to facilitate the emission. © 2001 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1381001#

Effect of sp2-phase nanostructure on field emission from amorphous carbons

Electron field emission from amorphous carbon is found to depend on the clustering of the sp phase. The size of the sp phase is varied by thermal annealing and it dominates the effect of other parameters, such as chemical composition, surface termination, sp content, or conductivity. The optimum size of the sp phase is determined by Raman spectroscopy and is of the order of 1 nm. The field emis...

Thickness dependency of field emission in amorphous and nanostructured carbon thin films

Thickness dependency of the field emission of amorphous and nanostructured carbon thin films has been studied. It is found that in amorphous and carbon films with nanometer-sized sp2 clusters, the emission does not depend on the film thickness. This further proves that the emission happens from the surface sp2 sites due to large enhancement of electric field on these sites. However, in the case...

Field emission from nano-cluster carbon films

Field emission has been reported to occur at much lower fields in carbon based thin film systems than from any other material systems. The emission has been shown to depend on the various material parameters, but whichever carbon based system is used, it is found that emission occurs at localised sites rather than uniformly over the entire surface. Carbon films with mixed sp3 sp2 bonding, like ...

Pulsed DC- Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition of α-rich Nanostructured Tantalum Film: Synthesis and Characterization

This paper is an attempt to synthesize nanostructured tantalum films on medical grade AISI 316L stainless steel (SS) using pulsed DC plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD). The impact of duty cycle (17-33%) and total pressure (3-10 torr) were studied using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), grazing incidence x-ray diffraction (GIXRD), nuclear reaction analysis (NRA)...

COMPARATIVE STUDY ON PROPERTIES OF NANOSTRUCTURED TITANIA SYNTHESIZED BY COLLOIDAL AND POLYMERIC SOLGEL ROUTES

Abstract:Nanostructured titania was synthesized by colloidal and polymeric sol-gel routes. Stable colloidal and polymeric titania sols were prepared by adjusting the proper values of the acid/alkoxide and the water/alkoxide molar ratios. The properties of sols were determined by dynamic light scattering technique and synthesized titania was characterized by thermogravimetry and differential the...
